First Black Mayor Adebari does it again

Rotimi Adebari is the only African Local Election Candidate to have won the 2009 election.

Adebari was one of 41 immigrants who contested this election. He was joined by Jan Rotte, Dutch former aid worker who retained his seat for the Labour Party in Lismore, Co Waterford, and Kristina Jankaitiene, a Lithuanian school teacher who took a seat for the Green Party in Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan.

Rotimi Adebari made his first appearance in the 2004 local elections. His popularity grew when he became the first African and black person to become Mayor in Ireland in 2006.
